“You’ve made your last delivery, kid. Sorry you got twisted up in this scene. From where you’re kneeling, it must seem like an 18-carat run of bad luck. Truth is, the game was rigged from the start.” — Benny, Fallout: New Vegas (2010)

Goodbye, Mr. Bing. We’ll try to keep it down.

Speechless.

I have always been the biggest Friends fan since childhood.

Chandler Bing has always been my favorite sitcom character.

Amidst today’s parasocial relationships, the popular pursuit of fleeting virality, and the complex, deconstructed nature of celebrity, Matthew Perry’s sudden passing leaves an indelible mark, not only in the hallowed halls of Hollywood, but indeed the realm of redemption, particularly for the antiheroes of addiction and muses for mental health.

I’ll write more about this soon before long. These things are bittersweet gut shots. Life is beautiful and cruel. Life is kaleidoscopic chaos. Life is too damn short. For one thing, it’s certainly more than career and work.

The Stoics teach us, “amor fati” (Latin, “love of fate”) and “memento mori” (Latin, “remember you must die”). Obviously, this is easier said than done. It’s a work in progress, but nobody gets out alive. Leave the best legacy you possibly can. Cherish your life and your loved ones.

Please take care of yourself and each other. I love you.
